Crytek Announces the Arrival of the New CRYENGINE®

Crytek have ushered in a new era for their state-of-the-art CRYENGINE  technology, with  the launch of the new CRYENGINE; an ever-evolving technology service, with always up to date access to the latest features in CRYENGINE for commercial game licensees.

CRYENGINE users will also benefit from the coming together of Crytek’s Engine Licensing and Research & Development teams; a move designed to double the level of one-to-one care game licensees can tap into, in essence offering Crytek’s R&D as a service for developers using the new CRYENGINE.

On top of these changes, the new CRYENGINE supports development on current and next generation consoles (Xbox One, PlayStation®4, and Wii U™), alongside PC, with further platforms to be added in the near future.

Revisiting the Off the Map Challenge: Part 1

Earlier this year, Crytek launched a creative competition for students in association with the British Library and GameCity. The Off the Map challenge invites students from participating universities and colleges to draw inspiration from a selection of British Library maps and then turn that inspiration into interactive environments using our free CryENGINE 3 SDK. Participants in Off the Map must choose between one of three maps as their source of inspiration: The Pyramids of Giza, Wiltshire’s Stonehenge, or London around the time of the Great Fire in 1666.

Both De Montfort University (DMU) and the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies have been actively participating and produced great projects. Most teams are now finished with their work and their school year.

Gaming meets architecture with ENODO and CryENGINE 3

Anyone who’s ever taken satisfaction from building a city, raising a civilization or constructing a theme park within a game is liable to envy Jean-Baptiste Reynes’ day job.

President and co-founder of French firm ENODO, Jean-Baptiste is part of a team using CryENGINE 3 to create virtual environments that will often go on to become concrete realities. Along with fellow architect Arnaud Moioli, Jean-Baptiste saw a recurring frustration among clients that he felt could be alleviated by drawing inspiration from his passion for gaming.

Laléh Sahrai, responsible for Business Development at ENODO, explains: “The idea for the creation of the company came when Jean-Baptiste and Arnaud were experimenting throughout large urban planning or architectural projects, and they were feeling that their clients were having trouble communicating technical data around those projects. In parallel, they were hardcore gamers and noticing how much that technology had evolved and the amount of incredible things they could do in a videogame. So the whole idea came from trying to bond these two worlds to each other, and trying to use the videogame software for non-gaming purposes. That’s the whole idea.”
